Petit's digital remix of his debut feature came out of a desire, prompted by Gareth Evans and Ben Slater (credited as associate producers) of Entropy magazine, to revisit some of the original Bristol locations with editor Matthews at a time of change in the city. There's much here that fans of Radio On will enjoy: Bruce Gilbert's reworking of the soundtrack; all sorts of 1979/98 split-screen fun, mixing Hi-8 video with Super-8 and original footage; contact sheets, stills, shots of the making of the original. Look out for the dismantling of the Victoria Street flyover, which means that a retake of the languid drive-by shot of the Grosvenor Hotel, with its lonely Edward Hopper figures in bedroom windows, is, sadly, not possible.

Posted on Jan 28 2011 20:40 Slowly, smouldering beautifully crafted film. Sparse dialogue, gentle narrative. Kraftwerk, Bowie, Ian Dury soundtrack. Cameo from Sting as a petrol station attendant/Eddie Cochran fan. This will not be to everyones taste, but if you like Wim Wenders Paris Texas, American Friend or Kings of the Road then you will almost certainly love this. This is a wonderful movie and an historical document. London to Bristol no longer looks or feels like this. Recommended (for some).
