Somewhat reminiscent of a female American Goodbye, Mr Chips, this expertly crafted school story has Colbert as the teacher who inspires future presidential candidate Croft during his formative years, but who shatters his youthful crush on her by falling for fellow tutor Payne. It's all told in nostalgic flashback, and controls the ebb and flow of laughter and tears with old-school command.Author: TJ

- Posted on Nov 06 2007 20:18 I have always enjoyed this film but suddenly saw that early in the story, the class of students recites the pledge with their hands stretched out resembling the "Hitler Pledge" and then Claudette Colbert's character leads Dewey in the pledge, leving out "under God" during the recitation. Why?
