Resist: To Be with the Living (2003)
Director: Dirk Szuszies, Karin Kaper
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Back in the lost age of the 1960s, the Living Theater was perhaps the most radical outfit on the western stage. Julian Beck and Judith Malina's anarcho-pacifist troupe offered a communal vision of exploratory performance, creatively and politically engaged, that enthralled and provoked wherever it laid its hat. Decades on and they're still at it, having survived the body blow of Beck's death in the '80s. Szuszies, who once counted himself among 'The Living', and co-director Kaper pay generous homage to the company, not just for its historic path-breaking, but for its ongoing commitment to social, cultural and political change. A personal reflection, a road log of their continuous touring and a useful archive of past glories, Resist, as much as the troupe it profiles, believes another world is still possible.Author: GE
