Shot back-to-back with The Shooting, this Jack Nicholson-scripted effort is considerably less ambiguous and weird than its celebrated sibling Western. Most of the action takes place in a ranch-house, where three cowboys wrongly accused of being outlaws wait out their fate. Incidental laughs aside, the resulting ennuis don't always seem intentional.Author: DT
