Rock n'Roll Cop (1994)
Director: Kirk Wong
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
The last of three Kirk Wong films drawn from the reminiscences of a real-life cop, this centres on an idiosyncratic Hong Kong detective (actually more a 'bring back vinyl' man than a rocker) who's sent across the border into China to help their police track down a vicious killer. It complicates matters that the villain's current squeeze was once seduced and abandoned by the China cop. The movie contrasts stolid Mainland procedures with laconic Hong Kong pragmatism (Anthony Wong contributes his usual 'Michel Piccoli plays Caliban' persona as the laid-back detective), but ends up bending over backwards to stress the joys of future co-operation. It sure delivers as an action thriller, though.Author: TR
