Well acted, well-intentioned but faintly predictable slice of social realism about kids forced by poverty, broken families, etc, into illegal and highly exploitative under-age labour. Set in an emphatically seedy Porto, the film blends social comment and melodrama pretty effectively, although it seldom transcends stereotyping, and lacks the bizarre lugubrious poetry of the best Portuguese cinema.Author: GA
