A typical hybrid of 'tasteful' adaptation, shot and (briefly) released in Britain before finding its US TV home. For all the Yorkshire location work and pedantic respect for Charlotte Brontë, it's not a patch on the gloriously artificial 1943 movie; and for all Scott's actorly huff and puff as Rochester, he can't disturb memories of Orson Welles.Author: PT
