Johnny Frenchman (1945)
Director: Charles Frend
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Hands-across-the-water propaganda for the Allied effort at the end of the war, as a Cornish fishing village is eventually led, by means of true love, to abandon its hatred of a rival Breton community and realise that the French are people too. Pretty dim drama (and comedy), though it is psychologically acute in revealing Patricia Roc's romantic preference for a visiting Frenchman over the local lad who woos her by shoving pilchards down her back.Author: GA
