Acción Mutante (1993)
Director: Alejandro de la Iglesia
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
The year is 2012 and a terrorist group, Mutant Action, is hitting back at the beauty industry and the media's focus on physical perfection. 'We don't want to smell good or lose weight!' snarls Ramón (Resines), his deformed face half covered by a leather mask. They infiltrate the society wedding of bread heiress Patricia (Feder), and just when it all looks likes a satire on terrestrial follies, take off for outer space demanding 10 million ecus in ransom for the chick. On the mining planet Axturias, peopled by sex offenders, the plot falls off, along with most of Feder's clothes. Director de la Iglesia likes tacky music, political incorrectness and TV send-ups. He is a Basque, and with some straining this could be read as a comment on his violent compatriots and their relationship with Spain. But more telling is the influence of comics, the love of the individual frame at the expense of overall coherence.Author: SFe
