Movie review

From Time Out Film Guide

This Disney movie has Huck as cheeky but resourceful artful dodger - which softens the hard times and produces an efficient but unexceptional adventure side-stepping the moral dimension and pathos of Twain's original story. The film has a Gothic beginning, but that's perhaps chiefly a nod to modern horror, and is soon dropped as Huck (Wood) takes to the raft with the runaway Jim (Vance) for his unsentimental education on the Mississippi. The Grangerford/Shepherdson feud is glossed over, and it's only with the arrival of Robards' 'King' and Coltrane's 'Duke' that things begin to liven up.
