All My Good Countrymen (1968)
Director: Vojtech Jasny
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Jasny, a leading light in the new wave of Czech film-makers since the late '50s, won best director at Cannes in 1969 for this kaleidoscopic portrait of a Moldavian village over the twenty-odd years since the end of WWII. The significant deaths of sundry community members throughout that time punctuate a bitter-sweet, affectionate and pointed picture of a life many Czechs would have recognised. A key film from the 'Prague Spring', it was banned in Czechoslovakia soon after the news broke of its Cannes award.Author: TJ
