The Amazing Doctor Clitterhouse (1938)
Director: Anatole Litvak
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
John Huston, at the outset of his screenwriting career, helped to transfer Barre Lyndon's British play from St John's Wood to Park Avenue. It's an amusing anecdote about a psychiatrist whose research for a book on the criminal psyche leads him to burglary and murder (very House of Games). The characterisations are all a bit heavy-handed, but the denouement is a doozy, with the doc in the dock desperately pleading the validity of his work, even though that would make him responsible for his actions in the eyes of the law.Author: TCh
