The Ambulance (1990)
Director: Larry Cohen
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
New York comic book artist Josh Baker (Roberts) sees a young woman collapse in the street and rushes to help her. As an ambulance arrives and whisks her away, Josh catches something about Cheryl (Gallagher), diabetes, and St Francis hospital. But when he enquires there, they have no record of her having been admitted... Once again Larry Cohen transforms a familiar and benign object into something mysterious and frightening. He keeps things light and pacy, eschewing Coma-style medical horror in favour of a sharp comic mystery. Great supporting performances, too, from James Earl Jones as a gum-chewing cop, and Red Buttons as an ex-press photographer with a smart line in cheap patter.Author: NF
