From Time Out Film Guide

An intelligent, if meandering tale, set during the military dictatorship, of a man who leaves Argentina for Ecuador with his young son when his estranged wife, who is involved in the leftist underground, 'disappears'; en route through Bolivia, they encounter corruption, superstition, con artists and further political turmoil. Vague parallels with the flight of the man's parents from Nazi Germany do not help, but the performances and assured direction hold the film together.
