The Angry Hills (1959)
Director: Robert Aldrich
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Conflict with Columbia over The Garment Jungle sent Aldrich to Britain, where he completed the bomb disposal thriller Ten Seconds to Hell for Hammer, and this WWII adventure from a Leon Uris novel. American war reporter Mitchum is entrusted with delivering a secret list of Greek collaborators to British intelligence, but his lack of moral courage sees his fortunes shaped by the integrity of the resistance fighters on one side and the ruthless determination of Baker's Greek-born Gestapo agent on the other. Weightier fare than the usual wartime heroics, but the plot construction leaves a hole in the centre, and Mitchum's not exactly at full tilt. Interest around the edges: Goring's elegant way with the usual cultured German officer clichés, young Richard Rodney Bennett's turbulent score straining against genre conventions.Author: TJ
