L'An 01 (1972)
Director: Niger Jean Rouch, Jacques Doillon, Alain Resnais
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
The '60s can be heard squeaking to a close in this grab bag of sketches by the cartoonist Gébé. The premise is that the French resolve to shut the country down, talk things over and start again from scratch. Much guitar strumming follows, bras are discarded and such impositions as vacuuming and going to work are deplored and revoked. Resnais' vignette has dummies, representing distraught financiers, raining down from Wall Street skyscrapers. Rouch's contribution is even slighter: a couple of his garrulous pals in Niger discuss the situation. It's all quite genial and throwaway, and the cast is non-professional with a sprinkling of familiar names, none of whom is on screen for more than about 30 seconds.Author: BBa
