Aristotle's Plot (1996)
Director: Jean-Pierre Bekolo
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
An ambitious, self-reflexive snapshot of the achievements of African cinema, this account of a figure called 'Cinema' and his battles to stay faithful to his art (and Aristotle's Poetics, oddly) founders on its rigidly allegorical premise. All sorts of symbolic obstacles put themselves between Cinema and his goal, most memorably a mob of blockbuster-watching gangsters. Playful and enquiring it may be, but writer/director Bekolo's dogmatism tries the patience.Author: MHi
