Asterix in Britain (1986)
Director: Pino Van Lamsweerde
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Asterix and Obelix are once more called upon to lay waste the Romans in this third animated feature to be lifted from the marvellous text and drawings of Goscinny and Uderzo's books. It's 50 BC, and the Romans have just invaded British shores. The Brits, however, seem more interested in their daily cuppa than fisticuffs. But one little village, still holding fort against the invaders, do call on the plucky Gauls, who come to their aid replete with a barrel of their strength-giving and intoxicating magic potion. Apart from some questionable editing and the use of slightly watered-down colours, the film stays true to the original characters. Youngsters will no doubt enjoy it, but true fans may prefer to stick with the pun-ridden books.Author: DA
