As You Desire Me (1932)
Director: George Fitzmaurice
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Garbo in one of her archetypally enigmatic roles as a Budapest cabaret entertainer, an amnesia victim who may or may not be the wife Douglas has long believed dead, but in any case falls for him while her 'protector' Stroheim fumes malevolently. Don't expect to find too much of Pirandello's play, but Garbo (sporting a peroxide wig some of the time) brings a real erotic undertow to the love scenes, while Stroheim is terrific as the demonically sadistic writer trying to model her as one of his own creations.Author: TM
