Yana's Friends (1999)
Director: Arik Kaplun
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Lively, enjoyable comedy drama set in Tel Aviv during the Gulf War, charting the fortunes of various inhabitants of a flatshare - notably a womanising video artist and a pregnant Russian immigrant abandoned by her husband - and the people they encounter in the street. The plotting and the gags are predictable, perhaps, but the essentially goodnatured tone is engaging, there are some subtle, imaginative visual and aural touches, the music is catchy, and the central theme of regeneration through new responsibilities and relationships, even in times of war, is lightly handled.
