By and large, a rather pitiful parody of the Universal 'Frankenstein' movies, taking typically Brooksian liberties with characters and plot, resorting to juvenile mugging, and relying to a great extent on fairly authentic sets and photography for its better moments. A few gags work (notably when Brooks extends the spirit of the original, or comments on it, as in the Monster's scenes with the little girl and with the blind hermit). But for a really delightful parody, James Whale's own Bride of Frankenstein is far better value.Author: GA

- Posted on Mar 20 2009 03:55 Once again, we have the sad case of a reviewer not knowing what he or she is talking about. This movie is, second only to "Blazing Saddles," Mel Brooks' funniest movie ever. Not even the great Boris Karloff could play the monster half as well as Peter Boyle did. And, as Igor (pronounced EYE-GOR), Marty Feldman is an absolute scream. The reviewer just needs to take another hard look at this gem of a comedy.
