Movie review

From Time Out Film Guide

It seems that only one story comes out of Israel these days: the conflict with the Palestinians. Interesting then to see the camera turned on divisions of a different kind, this time within Israeli society itself. From 1948 to '56 Jews from Morocco arrived in their thousands at the port of Haifa to take part in the great Zionist dream. But the story told here is one of marginalisation and hostility, as the Moroccans were kept on the fringes of society (literally, many were housed in buffer zones on the border with Lebanon) by the better educated and ethnically superior European and native Jews. This history is told through interviews with six second-generation immigrants, but engaging as they are, the point is made in the first hour and never develops in the three that follow.
