Kevin & Perry Go Large (2000)
Director: Ed Bye
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
The modest dimensions of a TV sketch no longer able to contain their raging hormones, Kevin and Perry graduate to the kind of exposure any self-respecting, self-obsessed teenage boy would regard as his birthright: a big screen outing chocka with drugs, women and music. Ibiza it is, then, for the petulant Kevin Patterson (Enfield), his monosyllabic chum Perry (Burke) and, er, Kevin's mum and dad. Inevitably, mishap after mishap befall the pair's attempts to stage their own Balearic summer of love; a chance meeting with top DJ 'Eyeball' Paul (Ifans) reveals the seedier side of the Mediterranean idyll, and the chums are left chasing the sole two women on the island. As proven from Morecambe and Wise to Saturday Night Live, what works in a three minute skit often falls flat in a 90 minute feature. So it goes with Enfield's admittedly memorable creations. How much slack you're prepared to cut this sub-Farrelly Brothers gross out comedy probably depends on your fondness for the televised original.Author: MHi
