King of Alcatraz (1938)
Director: Robert Florey
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
A terrific B movie from Paramount's resident backlot maestro, Robert Florey. Naish makes an unclean break from the prison island, landing up (initially in drag, accompanied by hijacking henchmen) on a tramp steamer whose wireless is manned by operators Nolan and Preston, buddies currently under disciplinary downgrading because of their perpetual brawling rivalry. They get to show their mettle to pretty Gail Patrick. The script has no time for subtleties, but the movie is extremely well put together, and it moves at a tremendous lick.Author: TCh
