Kings of the Sun (1963)
Director: J Lee Thompson
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
An ambitious, if ludicrous, pre-Western, marking the struggles between exiled Mayan tribesmen (led by Chakiris as Prince Balam) and the native Indians (Brynner as Chief Black Eagle) in what eventually became Texas, achieving peaceful coexistence after the Mayans abandon their rites of human sacrifice. On the heels of this portentous exotica, co-writer James R Webb picked up the same year's Oscar for what might be construed as the continuing story, How the West Was Won. PT.Author:
