King Solomon's Treasure (1978)
Director: Alvin Rakoff
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Credited as based on Rider Haggard's Allan Quartermain, but suspicions of 'poetic licence', creeping in with the appearance of the first prehistoric monster, are confirmed as full-blown travesty by the time our three bluff Victorian hearties, setting out for Solomon's legendary city, start using a pseudopod as a beast of burden. Cheapness aside (polystyrene pillars will bounce), it's the multitude of nationalities that becomes confusing (Viking vessel crewed by Romans, Queen Britt as Cleopatra, an ancient Greek and Madame de Pompadour in the space of an afternoon). But it's hard to dislike the blimpish trio, who miraculously survive rebellious priests, erupting volcanoes and tumbling cities to return to the old country with nothing but a tale to tell their grandchildren.Author: FF
