That Gang of Mine (1940)
Director: Joseph H Lewis
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
A salutary reminder of the poverty row milieu in which Lewis had to toil for years before producing the belatedly recognised masterpieces of his maturity, made on budgets only marginally more luxurious. A Monogram series movie featuring the East Side Kids in an absurd horse race comedy that induces as many groans (not least for racist stereotyping) as laughs, it's none the less distinguished (and lifted) by the energetic visual style and wit with which Lewis invests it.Author: PT
