Being Churchill's favourite film may not be much of a recommendation, but it's easy to see why he welcomed this wartime offering from the English community in Hollywood. Olivier may be outrageously hammy, but his Lord Nelson is an icon of eccentric English heroism. Patriotism is only half the story, though. Olivier and the splendidly coquettish Leigh distil the essence of their stormy off-screen romance so effectively that the Americans insisted on a ridiculously prurient prologue showing its unfortunate consequences for the lady.Author: RMy

- Posted on Aug 12 2007 13:44 Undoubtedly this movie is too pathetic, too British and the love story here is not an original one. Even though I guess it's a good movie. I like it because of Vivien Leigh portrayal of Emma and the small part of Gladys Cooper. Vivien proved she was an excellent actress. Olivier is bland here, as always overshadowed by his better wife, but, anyway, it's worth seeing it.
