Patchy but lively musical following in the wake of Sandy Wilson's The Boy Friend (though more movie-oriented in its terms of reference) and gently guying the era of the flapper, the Charleston, and the raccoon coat as Julie Andrews sallies forth from Kansas to the Big Apple in search of spouse, success and sophistication à la mode. Nicely acted by a reliable cast (Bea Lillie's white-slave-trading landlady is a delight), while the selection of standards and new songs is listenable enough, but the film is far too long for its own good.Author: GA
