Those Wonderful Movie Cranks (1978)
Director: Jirí Menzel
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
The cranks in question are pioneers of the Czech silent cinema - an opportunist travelling showman and his female entourage, a dopey documentarist, and a faded stage actress - vacillating over whether or not posterity deserves a record of the latter's histrionics. They are not wonderful. And the film, in its faux-naïf flatness, is not 'charming': it's leaden, slushy and slapdash, and ill serves the memory of silent cinema. Saddening, tedious, and intermittently annoying.Author: PT
