Inoffensive Western with Wayne, rheumy-eyed and overweight, called upon to reminisce about old times with Ben Johnson at every available moment, leading a gang that rides like a U Certificate version of Peckinpah's Wild Bunch. Wayne, as self-appointed guardian of the law, injects his boys (including Bobby Vinton, singer from the early '60s) with his particular brand of benevolent fascism. In return for every fist-whipping, they learn to respect him all the more and to call him 'Sir'. The band ride after half a million's worth of stolen gold so they can turn it in for the 50,000 dollars reward; it's that sort of film. Loads of male camaraderie and big country theme music, plus Ann-Margret riding along as a box-office concession and to get the rest of the cast horny in a U Certificate sort of way.Author:
