Lady L (1965)
Director: Peter Ustinov
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
A glossy and very silly period costume piece (from a novel by Romain Gary) about the life of a laundress (Loren) who dallies with international anarchists (including Newman) before marrying an English lord (Niven). Despite the impressive cast and Ustinov's attempts to emulate Max Ophüls, it looks sadly like a case of MGM having locked funds in Europe and wanting to burn them quickly. Not content with writing, directing and playing a fuddy-duddy Bavarian prince, Ustinov also dubs Philippe Noiret's voice.Author: ATu
