The Last Days of Chez Nous (1990)
Director: Gillian Armstrong
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Everyday routine and a long-standing relationship with her French husband (Ganz) threatens to make Beth (Harrow) cynical and complacent, and to blind her to the possibility of change. But the arrival of her lovelorn sister Vicki (Fox) causes the family to implode, with three generations forced to re-evaluate their relationships. Armstrong skilfully and gently teases out the subtexts underlying each interaction, exposing individual selfishness which insulates and provides protection against domestic insecurity. Harrow heads the strong cast with a performance of considerable power and restraint.Author: CM
