The Last Gangster (1937)
Director: Edward Ludwig
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
A typically edgy Robinson, continually threatening to turn things nastier at the drop of a snarl, returns from a ten-year stretch in stir during which he's become obsessed by the time he's missed with his small son. This is bad news for ex-wife Stradner, who's since married newspaperman Stewart and watched the bond grow between the boy and his stepdad. Stewart looks much younger than his 29 years, and he's not much of a match for the headliner, but this is still an absorbing exercise in contrasting styles.
