The Last of the High Kings (1995)
Director: David Keating
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Coming-of-age movie, produced and co-written by Gabriel Byrne, as fresh as a newly pulled pint of the dark stuff. Dublin, 1977: Thin Lizzy bestride the charts in black leather kecks, but for Frankie (Leto in a career-launching turn) exam results loom, girls seem unobtainable, and his mum's insistence that he's descended from the High Kings of Ireland doesn't really help. A familiar mix, but the fashions are suitably terrifying, the cynicism about 'Oirish' bullshit is refreshing, and there's a neat cameo from Stephen Rea as the taxi driver who's 'had 'em all' in his cab.Author: TJ
