Libero Burro (1999)
Director: Sergio Castellitto
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
In this diverting light crime comedy, Sergio Castellitto, sometime theatre director and ebullient star of Tornatore's The Starmaker, plays a Southern Italian ex-reform school boy, Burro, who crosses an old rival - now a violent big cheese - over a property redevelopment in Turin. His rival puts Burro's partner on ice; Burro, with new partner Catherine (Mazzantini), kidnaps the cheese's neglected son. Basically it's a nicely judged, well acted, romantic riff on family, love and ambition centred on Castellitto's larger than life persona. Piccoli is Burro's chef pal with a dubbed accent suitable for the capo of capos.Author: WH
