Awful international Technirama hodge-podge, adapted from a novel by Frank G Bengtsson, in which the Vikings wrestle with the Moors to lay hands on the legendary Golden Bell of St James (rather an anti-climax when it finally appears). Chief North African Poitier seems to be taking matters seriously, while Scandinavian rival Widmark clearly does not. Homolka overplays the role of Krok, a Viking shipbuilder, quite enjoyably.Author: TJ

I believe I saw this as a lad in the movie theater. I never forgot the opening shot of him as the Moorish Caliph. Of
course they couldn't make it Andulasia AND REALLY TELL the 'Double Truth, Ruth!', but that's Hollywood
for you. What's important, is 1 year before I saw Malcolm
X returning from his Hajj and subsequent African trip
( I believe he was returning from Ghana), I got to see up
close A real 'BLACK MAN'. The film itself, I got to see
again more recently, and it was a bit disappointing.
Firstly, the holstory was off, (see above), but EXCEPT
FOR SIDNEY, most of the acting was B movie caliber.
But it was nice overall as a period piece, which I tend to like, in general. - Report as inappropriate

- Posted on Feb 07 2008 15:58 I'm sure I saw this film as a lad and it had a sequence featuring the very gruesome and for me very frightening, 'Mare of Steel'. Would love to hear the theme music again too?
