Love Field (1991)
Director: Jonathan Kaplan
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Lurene (Pfeiffer), a Dallas housewife infatuated with Jackie Kennedy, puts her marriage at risk when she takes the Greyhound to Washington to see the President's funeral. On the bus, she makes friends with a black fellow passenger (Haysbert) and the daughter he may or may not be abducting. This affecting romantic comedy probes the gradations of racial prejudice still prevalent in the South despite JFK's best efforts. Kaplan has a light touch throughout (the assassination itself is evocatively understated) and Pfeiffer gives a marvellously touching, funny and credible performance. Unaccountably denied a theatrical release in Britain, this is a most impressive and enjoyable work.Author: GA
