The Uncanny (1977)
Director: Denis Héroux
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
Truly terrible trio of tales, all based on the (false) premise that, since a shot of an ordinary domestic cat is already fairly scary, then shots of several hundred cats must be very frightening indeed. Yet the animals come out of it better than the poor actors, forced to do their best with such dusty Amicus anthology-type plots as the bedridden aunt with the cats and the changed will; the child with the cat and the occult power (using the girl from The House That Dripped Blood, but here dubbed by what sounds like a middle-aged Canadian); and the self-parodying horror film star and starlet (Pleasence and Eggar, making you wish you were watching Dr Crippen instead) who own a cat. The stories are linked by cat-crazy Cushing and purring Milland - as sad a pair of back tax-payers as you could wish to see.Author: AN
