Urban Legends Final Cut (2000)
Director: John Ottman
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
This horror sequel opens with an out of control passenger plane, then plummets to intellectual ground zero. Substituting Scream-style movie references for any semblance of story, characterisation or suspense, it links with the half-baked original via sparky security guard Reese (Devine), now performing similar duties at Alpine University. Inspired by Reese's account of the urban legend-related killings at Pendleton High, film student Amy makes her thesis project a psychological thriller based on those murders. But competition for the prestigious Hitchcock Award is so fierce that members of Amy's crew are soon bumped off in ways echoing classic horror movies. Ottman, an editor/composer turned director, serves up plenty of gruesome nastiness, but he'd be unwise to give up either day job. Of the actors, the only one to escape 'irritating, disposable teen' status is Morrison, whose increasingly paranoid Amy has more psychological depth than the sloppy script deserves.Author: NF
