Movie review
From Time Out London
This is the first film ever to be simultaneously released in theatres (well one actually), on DVD and on the Internet (it’s downloadable via the Tiscali website). ‘EMR’ is an Anglo-American production that, despite being made on a ‘micro budget’ of just £40,000, manages to hold its own against the current slew. Epileptic conspiracy theorist Adam Jones (Adam Leese) is a loner who spends far too much time surfing conspiracy websites and frequenting chat rooms. So when a new epilepsy drug he takes starts messing with his head, he starts wondering whether the weird situations he finds himself in are the work of some mind-bending pharmaceutical-based corporate conspiracy or whether it’s all just a bad dream. The answers, he believes, lie with drug company Pfenal… A winner at last year’s Raindance Festival, the film is quite smart in the way it depicts Adam’s spiral into confused paranoia and distrust; Leese, too, proves a likeable lead. It’s nothing special, but it’s watchable enough and, at times, pretty tense too.Author: DA
