Jandek on Corwood (2004)
Director: Chad Freidrichs
Movie review
From Time Out New York
The indie-rock underground is crawling with obscure eccentrics, none more obscure or eccentric than Jandek. Since 1978, the Houston-based artist has released 38 albums of meandering, atonal music, while remaining an almost complete mystery. He doesn't give interviews or appear in public, and he responds to outside inquiries with cryptic one-line missives. Director Chad Freidrichs concentrates on the mystique, telling Jandek's story via the speculative interpretations of assorted indie scenesters who've caught the bug. Fascinatingly, his film becomes less about biography than the passion of cultish obsession.Author: SS
