Jires on lighter form, with a colourful drama about a mature lawyer who, for health reasons, leaves Prague to take over a country practise. It might seem like an elevated soap in the manner of ‘Dr Finlay’s Casebook’ were it not for the sympathetic performance of Kopecky as the frail, feisty and ‘fascinating antique’ and the way Jires’ script highlights the mechanics of political corruption still obtaining in the new Czech order.Author: WH
