Things to do Before You're 30 (2006)
Director: Simon Shore
Movie review
From Time Out London
It probably went something like this: ‘This dullish British comedy we’ve had sitting on the shelf since 2004 – it’s about relationships and it’s a bit footbally… Why not put it out for the World Cup? It might just get some business.’When a film’s been languishing unreleased for two years, you fear the worst. ‘Things To Do…’ isn’t quite that – though some odd editing jumps point to production troubles – but, World Cup or no, it’s unlikely to prove a ‘Bend It Like Beckham’-style success. Revolving around a group of late twentysomething footballing friends about to play their 500th match together, its ensemble cast features Dougray Scott as a City geezer whose roving eye courts trouble with his pregnant missus (Emilia Fox), Shaun Parkes as his friend with a secret, Jimi Mistry as a musician on bad terms with his father and Billie Piper as an art student whose boyfriend is desperate to coax her into a threesome. Featuring a few poignant and comic scenes along the way, these strands amble along to fairly uninspiring conclusions without ever quite annoying enough to earn a red card.
