Rough Winds (2006)
Director: Gerardo Herrero
Movie review
From Time Out London
Focussing on doctor Juan’s recent move to a coastal town near Cadiz, Gerardo Herrero’s film is an oddly stilted affair. Jumping between his recent past in Madrid– a torrid catalogue of affairs, sibling rivalry, accidental deaths – and his present-day relationship with cleaner Maribel, the film’s two time frames never satisfactorily cohere, while José Luis García Pérez’s performance as the emotionally wounded Juan is excessively maudlin. Still, it’s handsomely mounted and Cuca Escribano is on lively, spirited form as Maribel. More a gentle breeze than a gusty force of nature.Author: Edward Lawrenson
