Synopsis

Captain Jack and shipmates are back in the third (and dare we say final) 'Pirates' installment.

Movie review

From Time Out London

The sea-cow gets another milking in the third outing of the outrageously profitable ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ series. This time they’re brawling in Singapore, playing politics at a summit of pirate lords and blasting cannon across whirlpools. I’d love to give you a better idea of the movie’s plot, but I genuinely have no idea what it is. You’re certainly expected to have full recall of the previous instalment, so if you didn’t see that, forget it. I did see it, but didn’t understand it at the time and certainly have no clue ten months on why Bill Nighy’s squid-faced Davy Jones is in league with the beastly tea-swilling Brits, what Johnny Depp’s antically flouncing Jack Sparrow is doing cavorting with dozens of himself in a ‘Being John Malkovich’-lite netherworld, or why we’re expected to give a ship’s rat’s arse how Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley’s ongoing joint mission to out-wet the ocean is going. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve quite a soft spot for non-narrative popcorn fodder, as long as it’s spectacular and offers a basic idea of what’s at stake and who I should root for. Here, however, the action is messy and repetitive and the story-shaped hole is plugged by a slew of compacts and betrayals whose number is outstripped only by their unfathomability. It lasts about three hours and has about three funny bits, and Keith Richards’ cameo as Sparrow père is not among them. The poor chap barely seems able to move his features – perhaps they should have used the wonderful CGI that gives Nighy a faceful of tentacles to give Richards an expression or two.

Posted on Jul 14 2007 19:15 Not as good as the last 2 films , but still by far one of the best films of the year, the people who are slagging this off must be impossible to please . I wonder what Hollywood actually has to do to please these supercilious critics!
Still better to watch England FC fail though ..only kidding

Posted on Jul 08 2007 11:50 I am a massive pirates fan, and was not dissapointed by the third film! Some really funny quotes and, as usual in the pirates films, some outstanding fight scenes! Definately worth watching, even if it is excessively long

Posted on Jul 07 2007 17:51 I thought that Pirates of the Carribean was gonna be a sorry film - I didn't see th first or the second film until earlier this year when my child forced me to watch it - GOD WAS I WRONG! I'm totally hooked and can't wait to see the third film at the cinema this time! I'm sure it will be a knock out! Mr Depp's acting is just phenominal!

Posted on Jul 07 2007 11:23 i was annoyed at how much the producers relied on the sheer gorgeousness of bloom, depp and knightley to see them through. most of the film was dialogue which can be a little frustrating after a while. it was one of those films where you're like, 'what the fuck is going on?' and the person sat next to you is like, 'who cares? orlando bloom just swung from a tree.' i was very dissappointed with this film - it was too long and the plot was all over the place, what a load of shit

Posted on Jul 07 2007 09:55 As long as you don't try and keep track of EVERY DETAIL in this film, it's great. I can't believe some gave it 1 star- what difference do Keith Richards' facial expressions make? He's hardly in it! As long as you let the film wash over you a bit, it's hugely entertaining.

Posted on Jul 05 2007 13:44 I haven't seen the film yet but i don't want to! From what I've heard it sounds as boring and more confusing than the second. they should of left it at the first film which i thoroughly enjoyed and would watch again. This is just disappointing!
