Synopsis

A sequel to the hugely popular series of films about comically mismatched cops Lee and Carter. This time around Chief Inspector Lee runs into trouble while escorting Chinese Ambassador Han to the World Criminal Court Summit in Los Angeles. Detective James Carter, now demoted to traffic cop, is on hand to help however, and soon the pair are heading to Paris to do battle with the French police, the triads and, of course, each other.

Movie review

From Time Out London

The enormously bad latest entry in the odd-couple comedy-action cop franchise sees the shrill Detective James Carter (Tucker) and long-suffering Chief Inspector Lee (Chan) going up against the Triads in Paris (don’t ask). It’s lazily racist, sexist and homophobic, insultingly shoddy in its construction and even the fight scenes are dull. There are perhaps two good bits: the (presumably) tongue-in-cheek montage of melancholy after our heroes’ obligatory falling-out and the rueful realisation of a French cabbie that ‘I will never know what it is to be an American; what it is to kill for no reason.’ Oh, and marvelling at how palpably ashamed Von Sydow is of his dodgy diplomat shtick – and, one hopes, the whole thing.

Posted on Aug 17 2007 21:11 Rush Hour 3 marks the sensational return of the ultimate mismatched duo. Tucker and Lee let loose a stream of clever sexist, racist and homophobic rants which although offensive the tongue is fimly within cheek. The film has been meticulously constructed from a well researched sceenplay. The ambitious set design and finely choreographed fight sequences are aptly handled by a seasoned director. (Perhaps only Michael "Death Wish" Winner could have fine tuned it.)
Tucker's brave perfformance is overshadowed by Chan's stunning show. His dialogue delivery and punchy one liners are to be savoured. His performance alone deserves a repeat viewing. The showman has returned in the tradition of Brando, Pacino and Ronnie Corbett. The action is never heavy and compliments the stunning plot to perfection. I only wish the Acedemy would sit upand recognise Chan's effort for the 2008 Oscars.
