A Man's Job (2007)
Director: Aleksi Salmenperä
Movie review
From Time Out London
Can a person ever make an informed willing choice to be sex worker, safe and shame-free? It’s a question at the heart of this provoking Finnish film, in which the sex worker in question is a man. In his thirties and out-of -work he falls into prostitution after advertising his services as an odd-job man. At first he is liberated by the money and experiences a rush of compassion towards some of his lonely female clients – there’s a moving scene in we see him with a 19 year-old woman with Down's Syndrome, hired by her parents. Later come guilt and alienation, all played out against his tense marriage.Author: Cath Clarke

Coming home, sitting down on my couch and i am still thinking about this film called " a Man's job" i've just seen. I have read the brief about film plot before i watch, but the main attraction was how they did, how it looks like. The film name is quite ambigious after you see the film, whether it referred to suporting the family or to keeping his sex life happy with his wife. As dark it gets like most Finnish fims, it managed to make me laugh much frequent than dull Hollywood plops. Fantastically played by these briliant actors and actresses. One of best films i've seen in a long time. A very similar to Russian film titled "The Return". A powerful dark drama with comedic flavour.
A must see for people who are already fed up with polished and unreal Hollywood blockbusters. A breath of fresh air. - Report as inappropriate
