Saw IV (2007)
Director: Darren Lynn Bousman
Movie review
From Time Out London
“You think it’s over because I’m dead,” teases raspy-voiced Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) from beyond the grave – courtesy of a tape dug out of his autopsied stomach. So the cruel machinations begin again, as director Darren Lynn Bousman tries to spark life into a disembowelled corpse. Parallel plot-strands threaten to strangle one another as obsessed SWAT team member Rigg (Lyriq Bent) and FBI profilers Strahm (Scott Patterson) and Perez (Athena Karkanis) charge about town or interrogate Jigsaw’s estranged wife Jill (Betsy Russell), looking for clues that will save two captive cops from an early bath. The $64,000 question is, can the cops learn to see how Jigsaw sees and feel how he feels? The need to incorporate familiar characters and icons from the earlier films, together with flashbacks that flesh out Jigsaw’s pre-‘puppet master’ past, simply leads to an irritating series of creative dead ends. Truly, a hack-‘Saw’.Author: Nigel Floyd

An inspired fourth instalment of a thrilling and shocking series. Although some aspects of the plot are somewhat confusing, this serves as a great excuse to go see it again. With thought- provoking twists, likeable casts, and scenes that will have you reaching for the sick bag, we cannot wait to see Jigsaw's next move.

- Posted on Oct 29 2007 00:20 this is a great film, lived up to the others but not the best of the four. Plot made sense everything linked apart from the confusion of when it links in with saw3. how can that be when the jigsaw werent dead??? 8 out of 10.

- Posted on Oct 27 2007 18:50 This was easily my favorite of the series. To those that say the plot was too confusing, watch it again. You'll understand it if you actually pay attention, and it makes perfect sense what has happened. The movie was twisted and gory, keeping that type of horror flick fan satisfied. But the film also included the thrilling tale of Jigsaw's life before his time as the twisted genius. In a twisted sort of way, it'll almost make you feel bad for Jigsaw. The traps were excellent, the plot thickened and left itself open for a much-anticipated 5th movie, and I will be there on opening night as I have been with the past three. Excellent film all in all.
