The Trap (Klopka) (2006)
Director: Srdan Golubovic
Movie review
From Time Out London
An intelligent if sometimes contrived and overly slick suspenser-cum-cautionary tale that finds a Belgrade architect resorting to desperate, deadly means in an attempt to gain enough money for an operation that might save the life of his ailing son. Keeping secret his dealings with a sinister patron found through a newspaper ad, he inevitably distances himself from his wife, while suffering troubling pangs of guilt… At once reminiscent of Highsmith and Dostoievsky, the film is flawed by frequent implausible details, schematic ironies and genre-dictated moments of melodrama; still, brisk pacing and crisp visuals keep it watchable.Author: Geoff Andrew

- Posted on Nov 23 2007 17:35 I watched the movie last nite and still can not stop thinking aobut it. It can be many things to many different people, like every good movie. Yes, it is dark, suspensful and superbly acted and directed. It is about: making choices, doing bad things in the name of good intentions, living desperate lives in a "society in transition" and emotionally dying before a physical death occurs. Can it happen here and now - yes, of course it can and it does. Normal and fine people flip every day and commit crimes that affect the society. Is it preventable? Sure, it is. The question is how?
